Jiang Dong: “Exploring Independent Cinema and AIGC” Focusing on the application and limitations of AI in filmmaking, director Jiang Dong explained how AI can reduce production costs and streamline crew structures. However, he emphasized that quality screenwriting, the director’s command of audiovisual language, and the thoughtful use of blocking and editing remain central to filmmaking. Drawing on practical experience, he introduced preparatory methods such as rehearsals, overhead scene plans, camera-position diagrams, and smartphone-based previsualization. These techniques demonstrate how traditional filmmaking methods can be integrated with AI workflows to improve efficiency and reduce uncertainty. He stressed that technology is a tool for enhancing creative productivity, not the ultimate determinant of a film’s artistic value.

Waleed Seif: “Screenwriting and Filmmaking Culture in Egypt” Professor Waleed Seif, renowned Egyptian film critic and screenwriter, shared his insights into screenwriting and international filmmaking through the lens of his personal creative journey and Egyptian film culture. He encouraged young filmmakers to discover stories in everyday life, human relationships, and personal encounters, emphasizing that these are fundamental sources of cinematic inspiration. He also stressed the importance of developing an authentic creative voice rooted in one’s own cultural identity rather than blindly imitating Hollywood. In his view, a filmmaker’s international perspective often emerges precisely from a deep understanding of their national and cultural roots. He encouraged young creators to submit their work to international film festivals and refine their craft through continuous rewriting, reshooting, and practical experimentation.

Guo Yu: “How Directorial Thinking Can Reshape Filmmaking in the Age of AI” Director and screenwriter Guo Yu explored the enduring value of directorial thinking in the age of AI, emphasizing that emotion and human experience are the starting points of filmmaking. Drawing on classic films such as Marriage Story, Roma, and Memento, she analyzed how visual elements—including walls, close-ups, narrative structures, mise-en-scène, and lighting—can externalize characters’ inner lives and establish emotional connections with audiences. She explained that a director’s role extends beyond telling a story: it involves translating that story into expressive audiovisual language. As AI-generated imagery becomes increasingly sophisticated, uniquely human experiences, aesthetic judgment, and emotional understanding remain essential and irreplaceable elements of cinematic creation.

Moris: “Filmmaking Exercises for Beginners” Drawing on the Russian film education tradition, director Moris Amiryan introduced a foundational directing curriculum that has been practiced at the Moscow Film School for decades. Through examples of student exercises—including exploring the characteristics of objects, silent dialogue, uninterrupted long shots, interior and exterior scenes, and one-take filmmaking—he demonstrated how students can develop audiovisual thinking and directorial awareness using basic equipment and minimal budgets. He emphasized that solid foundational training is more important than sophisticated equipment, and that filmmakers should develop their cinematic language through observation, practice, and a deeper understanding of the image.
